Zero Waste Alliance Ireland (ZWAI) began in 1999 as an alliance of
anti-landfill and anti-incineration groups from many parts of Ireland, and has
developed into a strong national confederation of local residents' groups.
ZWAI has affiliated organizations and groups throughout Ireland,
including all the principal environmental NGOs (An Taisce, Voice, Earthwatch --
Friends of the Earth Ireland, Earthwatch Leitrim, Earthwatch Sligo, Friends of
the Irish Environment, CHASE, Kinsale Environment Watch the Irish Doctors
Environmental Association (IDEA)), and more than 40 active local groups
developing and implementing new ways to address Ireland's waste problems.
